The 2012 Mobiz Awards, presented by Ingenio, a subsidiary of Loto-Quebec, recognized the ingeniousness and the excellence of four companies which have demonstrated their talent in the field of the mobile solutions. The winners are:

  • Mobiz Award Ingenio – Business – Technology : w.illi.am/ for the  Zeste App
  • Mobiz Award Ingenio – Business – Media and Marketing : Nurun for the Impact de Montréal App
  • Mobiz Award Ingenio – Business – Society : TC Media for the P$ Mobile Service
  • Mobiz Award Ingenio – Startup : TAG taxi for the TAG taxi App

A special mention was also awarded to Applets, the student club that developed an application addressing the specific needs of students attending the ÉTS.

The Mobiz Awards:

The Mobiz Awards comprise six awards in three categories.

Four Mobiz BUSINESS Awards  representing the following four major categories

    1.                Technology
    2.                Media
    3.                Society
    4.                Marketing
  • The Mobiz STARTUP Award, for business startups.
  • The Mobiz STUDENT Award, aimed at college or university level students presenting a concept, a project or a prototype of a mobile solution.

 

Mobiz STUDENT Award

The Mobiz STUDENT Award is aimed at college or university level students. It rewards the ingenious efforts of a team, or an individual, working on the development of a concept, a project or prototype for an innovative mobile solution, in the context of their studies. The candidates must highlight the innovative aspect of the concept and its potential impact, as well as properly explain and present its mode of operation.

For the evaluation, the following criteria will be analyzed by the members of the jury:

  1. Originality of concept/product
  2. Realism and viability of the concept/product
  3. Consistency and quality of the presentation

 

Mobiz STARTUP Award

The Mobiz STARTUP Award recognizes startups and visionaries of today, who will shape the mobility industry of tomorrow. This award seeks to identify the solution that has the greatest likelihood of changing market rules, an industry or our lifestyles. It rewards the ingenious efforts of a company, a team or an individual who works continuously and exclusively on the development and the marketing of their mobile solution; a solution with a revolutionary potential (and possibly disruptive) which will be manifested in the next year.

The mobile solution does not need to be in action or developed yet, but must at least be in development and capable of a demonstration of its feasibility (proof of concept). The candidates must be able to highlight the innovative aspect of the concept, its potential impact, as well as properly explain and present its mode of operation; not to mention amaze our judges.

For the evaluation, the following criteria will be analyzed by the members of the jury:

  1. Originality of concept/product
  2. Realism and viability of the concept/product
  3. Consistency and quality of the presentation

 

Mobiz BUSINESS Awards

The Mobiz BUSINESS Awards highlight the success of the best mobility solution developed by a Quebec company. Companies and candidates must demonstrate the impact and success that their mobile solution has had in the past year. The impact must be demonstrated through measurable criteria such as utilization, the business model, the number of downloads, generated profits, value created, or qualitative criteria such as the execution quality of the application, its scope, feedback from end users. We leave the door open to other success factors that candidate firms may submit.

The Mobiz BUSINESS Awards are divided into four categories:

Marketing: A solution that stands out by its positive impact on performance or the visibility of the company. (SoLoMo, advertising, payment, monetization)

Technology: A solution which is renowned for its technological innovation.

Media: A solution which is renowned for its innovation in distribution channels, the use of social networks, its message or the commitment of its users.

Society: A solution that stands out by its impact on services or information offered to consumers (public, para-public, health, education, culture, etc…)

For the evaluation, the following criteria will be analyzed by the members of the jury:

  1. Originality of concept/product
  2. Success of the solution or the application
  3. Value of the concept for the consumer/user
  4. Consistency and quality of the presentation

 

Rules

  • The place of business must be in Quebec
  • The company and by extension its mobile solution, should not violate the laws of Quebec or Canada
  • The mobile solution must be morally and socially acceptable
  • The mobile solution should be free of any copyright or intellectual property rights. Applicants may submit mobile solutions to which they currently hold the intellectual property. Required permissions, notably for mobile solutions resulting from a collaboration between several organizations, must be obtained beforehand.
  • (Startup) Maximum number of employees: 10
  • (Startup) Number of years of existence: less than two years
  • (Students) Must be enrolled in a recognized educational institution in Quebec
  • (Business) The project must have been produced or deployed (for a client or the general public) between October 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013.
  • At least three portfolios must be in a category for it to be considered open. Otherwise, the Audit Committee may, in agreement with the candidates concerned, transfer the portfolios to another relevant category.
  • A mobile solution cannot be submitted in more than one category.

 

How to apply

The participants must fill out a form ensuring to:

  • Select the category that applies to the reality of their business (Business, Startup or Student);
  • Select sub-categories that apply to their project if vying for the Business Awards (Marketing, Technology, Media and Society);
  • Present a 30-second video;
  • Present their project (maximum of 500 characters);
  • Provide a short presentation (PDF or PowerPoint).

 

Pre-selection and selection periods

A committee made up of industry professionals will pre-select candidates

Companies whose projects are selected to present at Mobiz will be notified. 

Stages of competition during Mobiz

Mobiz BUSINESS Award

  • For these four awards, the Jury will have to select three finalists and the winner of the award.

Mobiz STARTUP Award

  • The Jury will select three finalists who will have 5 minutes to present their project to Mobiz attendees. The winner will be determined by a live public vote.

Mobiz STUDENT Award

  • The Jury will select three finalists who will have 5 minutes to present their project to Mobiz attendees. The winner will be determined by a live public vote.

Following the presentations, a networking session will take place during the Mobiz closing cocktail to encourage repartee with the big players of the mobility industry.
