Montreal, November 16, 2012 – MTL DGTL, Montreal’s digital festival presented by the Canada Media Fund, gathered nearly 2400 professionals of the digital industry coming from Quebec and abroad. During four days, specialists of the Web, video game and mobility connected, got inspired, reflected and developed new business partnerships to face the industry’s actual and future challenges.

Organized by Alliance numérique, MTL DGTL regroups three events, each one concentrating on a specific sector the digital industry: Web-In (Internet), the MIGS (video games) and Mobiz (mobility).

For Pierre Proulx, General Manager of Alliance numérique, “Montreal has become one of the world’s capitals of the video game industry and we want to position the city and the province in the same way for the other interactive platforms and digital content. Quebec companies have an enormous potential and their attractiveness is favourable for the business development and marketing agreements. The talent is here, the role of MTL DGTL is to give them the needed visibility in order to promote them to national and international institutions and investors. »

Web-In – November 12th

Web-In is an event created by and for Web professionals. Its mission is to stimulate the professionals of the industry and support them in innovating and reinventing the Web of tomorrow.

In 2012, the Web-In gained additional momentum by tripling its admission capacity. About 200 participants attended a dozen training workshops that addressed various key elements of the Web, including: programming, user experience, project management and referencing optimization

According to François Légaré, Director of Web-In: “For the past 3 years, our challenge has been and remains the same: To take the pulse of the industry and to adjust the event according to the needs of the Web community in order to offer a solid proportion of inspiration and new knowledge. The passion we have seen this year confirms that the Web-In has touched the right cords in the industry and indicates that we are on the right track in order to offer a 2013 edition that will be even closer to the industry needs”.

Montreal International Game Summit (MIGS) – November 13 and 14

This year again, the biggest names of the video game industry attended the Montreal International Games Summit (MIGS). With the most robust programming yet, more than 80 fascinating conferences were delivered by internationally renowned experts including several keynotes such as Tim Sweeney and Peter Molyneux. The event attracted more than 1,725 participants coming from all around the world.

> The “Brain Dump” panel included nine major industry players, each taking turns to deliver a short, passionate speech about their vision for the future of the gaming industry. This unique panel closed this edition of the gaming industry’s biggest event in Canada and on the East Coast.

> The Business Lounge presented by BlackBerry also experienced remarkable growth this year. It was an opportunity for 139 industry leaders and decision makers to network in an environment conducive to business development. Thanks to the new Demo Zone, also presented by Blackberry, more than $15 million dollars have been put into play by investors with the intention of propelling independent developers’ projects to new heights.

> The heart of MIGS, the Exhibition Zone has attracted more than 40 exhibitors, thanks to its various activities. Given the success of its 2011 rendition, the Sketch Duel presented by 3vis in collaboration with Steambot studios and Wacom was held over the course of two days. This unique confrontation placed the best artists in the industry under the spotlight, as well as some very promising new blood, to which the second portion of the duel was dedicated.

> The Art Gallery highlighted the greatest works of independent artists in the industry, and Montreal ACM SIGGRAPH also presented the best videos from the prestigious Computer Animation Festival. Meanwhile, the Career Fair, presented by Espresso-Jobs, welcomed more than 300 outside visitors who came with the intention of taking part in hiring interviews for companies looking to acquire new skills.

“Once again, MIGS has pushed the boundaries of previous years and reached new heights with over 1,725 participants. We are proud of the networking opportunities that this icon of the video game industry has provided to its players, be they investors, indies, artists, guest speakers, programmers or others.” said Emmanuel Viau, Director of MIGS. “This year confirms for Montreal that our video game industry is in fact a world leader.”

Mobiz – November 15

During the Mobiz, Quebec’s mobility conference, close to forty speakers and panelists delivered sessions to 400 participants on the latest developments in mobile technology and best practices in the mobility industry in such fields as technology, marketing, media and society.

According to Sebastien Foiret, Director of Mobiz, “This year’s event was a true success. Amazing conferences, some about the hottest topics, given by professionals from all horizons have shown that the industry of mobility has grown to adulthood and that the next editions will be even more exhilarating. »

This year, the Mobiz Awards, presented by Ingenio, a subsidiary of Loto-Quebec, recognized the ingeniousness and the excellence of four companies which have demonstrated their talent in the field of the mobile solutions. The winners are:

High Road Communications is a clear leader in the world of communications, thanks to their exceptional agility and their ability to adapt to today’s media. That is why we trust them to manage the medias’ needs for the whole MTL DGTL festival, and also why they have been a MIGS partner from the beginning.

They describe themselves as such: “We love big ideas and the smallest details. We live in media and we build online. And we have a culture that never settles for anything less than extraordinary, which is why we tell the best stories, have the strongest relationships and represent the biggest brands.”

PRIX MOBIZ – Les finalistes
