Fueling and Funding Your Indie Game Dreamsbu
Having built independent studio Minority and launching his first title Papo & Yo for the PlayStation® Network, Vander Caballero can finally look back at the long ride to creating a meaningful gaming experience that has won him critical acclaim and loyal fans.
In this session, audience members will get firsthand knowledge about starting an indie studio as Vander tells all about the decision to leave a prominent, stable job at a huge company; how the Canada Media Fund (CMF) was a perfect fit for his risky concept; the journey to finding the right partners to help build Minority; and the trials and tribulations of successfully delivering the final product. And while it may sound breezy on paper, Vander spills the hard truths about the process that will cost money, time and heartbreak, especially when money’s tighter and stakes are higher. But for all the struggles, Vander weighs in on the future of indie games, and why we need to change the gaming industry.
Before founding Minority Media, Vander was Creative Director at EA Montreal, where he worked on Army of Two, Boogie, FIFA, NFS, The Sims and Spore. He is currently working on one of the most anticipated games Playstation 3 games: Papo & Yo.
